Argument Number 1: The Nintendo Wii is stupid because it is too G-Rated. I don’t want to play kiddie games!

Nintendo Wii
Most ridiculous name ever.
The source behind this argument goes back to the old Nintendo GameCube days. Many of the games first released for the GameCube, such as Pikmin and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, had the appearance that they were aimed at children. Of course this doesn’t mean that they were lacking in the game play department. This point is argued because most fan boys/girls want to be mature and therefore they believe that to do this they must play mature games. To them mature games pretty much equates to games with an M or higher rating and featuring a large amount of blood and/or gore. If you ask me this is as mature as playing Knock-&-Run (A game which is becoming increasingly dangerous with the populace of suburbia arming themselves like militia). Just because a game seems to be targeted at children doesn’t mean that it lacks in the game play department. In a way this argument is analogous to the "Nintendo Wii is stupid because its graphics performance is sub-par".

Argument Number 2: I’m not going to spend $999AUD on a PS3. That is a preposterous sum of money. Because of this gargantuan price tag Sony will end up like a fish out of water.

PS3 The PS3: so shiny you can see it from space. When it comes to consoles price is usually a big factor in deciding which one to purchase. At least that’s the case if you are, say, a parent. Of course if you’re a fan boy/girl then the price is irrelevant. There are many people that are prepared to fork out the dough for it regardless of the price. With regards to the "Sony paying dearly" sentiment even if they fail to sell a single console they will hardly be destroyed by angry investors. They are a big company and, like all big companies, have big contingency plans in place for such a scenario. I believe that jealousy is at the base of this argument in that fan boys/girls harbour a deep resentment towards people who can afford such an expense. This is where I would usually insert a ranting tirade on the evils of the class system but I doubt you really need to hear it. The usual counter argument to this statement put forward by PS3 fan boys/girls is that you are getting what you paid for and so therefore if you spend a very large amount of money then you will surely receive an incredible gaming experience. This couldn't be further from the truth. There are many examples that disprove this theory. In fact there are so many that I believe that I can, with confidence, leave the relevant research up to you. Remember there is no "I" in team. Pages:   1   2   3
