Well, the wait is over ladies & gentlemen. The long awaited 3m-invite league has gone live, with the first official game to be played tonight between Style & Renegades on the week 1 map Dawnville. I suppose you're all wondering about how the league will run and what the key factors are in running a league? Gamestah caught up with Asterix from 3m, one of the key people involved in creating this league, to get him to answer a few questions on the new league and his thoughts on the top teams involved. ------------------------- Asterix, thanks for joining me, how are you? Great! The league has started now, have there been any major hiccups along the way? Did you ever think it may never get off the ground? Yeah I thought there was a chance that people would fight over the rules to much and would make it too difficult to start the league, fortunately everyone has been really good with voting in the polls and making good suggestions. Hopefully there aren’t too many hassles over the coming weeks. As people know, the league is Invite only, what was the process in choosing suitable teams for the comp? Basically we looked at the top 15 from the GA ladder, and invited the ones that were the most active and least likely to suddenly disband and drop out of the league. We were then going to invite more teams if at least 8 didn’t signup, 14 teams signed up so there was defiantly no need to invite more. With all leagues the rules and maps format is a big issue, you’ve been working closely with the CoD2 community, do you think that this is going to improve the game play and running of the league? I certainly hope so, it should defiantly make the league easier to run as there should be less complaints and disputes. More importantly the game play is what the community has voted for, only the minority might you be a little disappointed. Fortunately, most of the polls so far have gone 70%+ to one side. We decided to release only the first 7 maps of the competition, with the big difference being that week 5 is a custom map, called powcamp. This is a conversion from the cod1 map, so everyone will know it quite well. Now, 3m have been around for donkeys' years. Was it inevitable that you guys were going to host a competition of some sort? Yes I guess so, but more likely a small knockout tournament than a full round robin League. How long has it taken you guys to setup and why did you choose to start a league? Trailblazer managed to get himself some decent servers to administer a few months ago and was looking for a way to advertise his new server hosting business, wasn’t long before we came up with the idea of running a league. It took a couple of weeks to get all the league software working the way it should. Looking at the GameArena ladder, we see Style up on top undefeated. From your knowledge, does the community feel this trend is going to carry over into the 3m-i competition? I imagine the trend will defiantly follow, as many of the teams in the league aren’t high enough on the GA ladder to actually challenge style, which means there will be many easy matches for the style boys. This will at least give some clans an idea of the competition. Enforcing anti-cheat is always a big issue, how have you guys combated the cheating issue? What measures do the players have to take to be able to play in a cheat-free environment? Players have to run a client side program called ‘Octinium’ which takes screenshots of the players screen. The player then must upload this file within 15 minutes to the 3m website, this ensures that the player doesn’t just replay the demo with their hacks off. With the league kicking off tonight, do you have any predictions on a team which have been flying under the radar, who will really make a statement in the 3m-i comp? New Allegiance, High-Cal and Renegades are relatively un-proven and I hope they really step up and do them selves proud in this competition. High-cal is the team I will be watching, I really hope they can do well in the league. Well Asterix, thanks for your time and good luck with running the comp. Any shoutouts to people who have helped this whole idea come to life? Definitely a big shoutout to Trailblazer who is letting us use his servers for free, the league would certainly not be possible without him. Also a shoutout to all of 3M who helped test the league software before it went live. ------------------------- Well its clear to see all the proper steps have been taken and all the top teams are playing. Gamestah hope that this new competition will get off the ground and going like we all know it should. We will be there bringing you the action each week with our CoD2 casters and look forward to covering what seems to be shaping up as a good league. Tune in this Sunday 17th, at 8:30pm, for the first 3m-invite match to be casted between House of Renshou and Team Immunity. With special comments from one of the key players in the competition Trailblazer, its sure to be a great cast! |
