PlayStation.com isn't a website that likes to break bad news, so it's with great disappointment that we can confirm a delay to the previously announced November launch of PLAYSTATION®3. The much-anticipated system will now launch in Europe and the PAL territories of Russia, the Middle East, Africa and Australasia in March 2007.
The system will launch in Japan and America this November, as originally planned. We realise this will come as a huge disappointment to PlayStation fans in Australia and other PAL territories. PLAYSTATION®3 comprises many cutting-edge technologies; unfortunately, production issues with the blue laser diodes needed for the Blu-ray Disc drive at the heart of the system have forced us to push the European launch back. With so many different territories and languages to support, the PAL market is the most complicated region in which to launch the system, and is therefore the most pragmatic choice to bear the brunt of the shortage of components. Of course, this fact does not make the decision any less difficult to make. PLAYSTATION®3 will launch in Europe next March, when a full range of software will kickstart the next generation in style.
