The World Cyber Games Asian Championships (WCGAC) is into it's fourth year and is traditionally held in conjunction with the Singapore National Finals (WCG SG) during August of each year. The choice of venue is the pivitol and highly accessible Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre. It is interesting to note that the event is being held a month early. Fourteen countries from around Australasia will take part, including India, Singapore, Korea, New Zealand, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Chinese Taipei, China, Australia, Singapore and Indonesia.  During WCGAC, several other events are being held such as, the Compaq AMD Pro-Gaming League (CAPL) DotA challenge, the Singapore Games Expo 2009 (TGX09) and the SAGA Business Summit 2009.

Day 1 featured the Singapore National Finals, which included the FIFA 09, Counter-Strike 1.6, Blackshot, Guitar Hero : World Tour, and DotA. As most games were running concurrently, I did my best to cover the official games played.

Counter-Strike 1.6 saw the legendary Team TitaNs whitewash all their opposition. With a lineup of Matrix, techduck, StrykerX, syck and new man extreMe, they absolutely brought the smacketh down! Their stage match against quadDamage on De_Inferno saw a 16-0 match with no sign of weakness from the TitaNs team. Day 2 will feature the Semi-Finals of CS 1.6.

DotA was exceptionally epic with XTC and AXIS (GWSG/ Axis.RSC). The stage match final was of sensational standards, with both teams constantly going on the offensive. The highlight of the match was when both teams came down to the wire attacking each others' World Tree/ Throne. XTC were Scourge (Bristleback, Shadow Priest, Crystal Maiden, Tormented Soul and PoTM) and AXIS played as the Sentinel (Shadow Fiend, Chaos Knight, Tidehunter, Pug, Zeus). Towards the end of the match, AXIS pushed into XTC's base and went absolutely bananas, devouring every creep and building in sight. However, XTC successfully defended their Frozen Throne against AXIS' magnificent Shadow Fiend, albeit with a sliver of health left. XTC then went on the offensive and counter pushed but met with great resistance. As the AXIS SF bought out and went for the final blow on XTC's Frozen Throne, the crowd went wild in anticipation of the AXIS upset. However, XTC took out the AXIS' World Tree a microsecond before the AXIS Shadow Fiend's attack hit the Frozen Throne. The crowd, in disbelief, went silent for a few seconds before they brought the house down, yours truly included.

The final event of the day was the opening ceremony for the World Cyber Games Asian Championships. Various speeches and videos were shown. The official fairplay pledge and flag ceremonies also took place. Day 2 should be more exciting.

Here's my chronological doodles (with actual jotted down thoughts included free-of-charge :D! ):

1:30PM: Finally reached the venue. Seems a lot smaller compared to the previous year's WCGAC (Two halls used previously, one hall this year).

1:52PM: CS 1.6, TitaNs go up against quadDamage on stage. 15-0 at first half.

3:00PM: Blackshot 2nd round of play. Singapore Battlefield and Call Of Duty legends Bf.Nut taking part in event. Maps are Broken City and Sandstorm. Two twenty minute Team Deathmatch halfs.

3:15PM: DotA, XTC goes up against AXIS.

3:24PM: The Games XPO 2009 kicks off. Displaying loads of old school and new school arcade game machines.

3:26PM: DotA games happening throughout the day @ the CAPL Corner.

3:47PM: At the Dell / Alienware corner. Seems like they are holding GRID and 2v2 CoD4 competitions on their m17x Aliienware and XPS laptops. Team TitaNs endorse the products.

4:02PM: DA kicks opens a can of GET SOME! in a 2v2 CoD4 challenge. He goes 1 v 2.

4:05PM: Garena's hold 3v3 Blackshot competitions and giving the top fraggers Razer Carcharias Headsets. XTC DotA match still going on stage.

4:18PM: Appears XTC is getting dominated by AXIS. What a shocker!

4:22PM: XTC pull a Hail Mary. Manage to win by mere MICROSECONDS. Talk about Asian gamers! Crowd goes wild!

5:15PM: Rehersal for WCGAC opening ceremony. Flags come out. Let the fun commence.

5:30PM: Registered for last minute MEDIA passes. Thank goodness the Media Liaisons are so kind.

5:42PM: Finally sitting down. Met up with some Malaysian friends who have come down to compete and provide media coverage.

6:12PM: Guest-of-Honor speeches done. Flag raising beings. WCGAC officially kicks off. Nationals go wild when the name of their country comes up. So far it seems India & Singapore are ready to party.

6:23PM: Fairplay oath taken by officials and players.

6:25PM: Ceremony over. What a day! GET SOME!!!
