Gaming and Commentating History

I'm serious when I say that I've been gaming from such a young age that some games are so totally blurred into my childhood memory that they are barely recollectable. My foray into gaming began with my parents purchasing a 486, a 486 which came with a disc of assorted software, shareware and game demos. At the age of 3/4, this was absolutely amazing to me, playing games like Commander Keen, Blake Stone, Doom, Jazz Jackrabbit and Halloween Harry among others - it was something totally new, and most definately totally different. It was AWESOME. From an obsession with Star Wars came endless hours of TIE Fighter and X-Wing. When I look back on those games now, I can fully appreciate their storylines, but then all I cared about was blowing up those F***ing rebels. At some point we had a SEGA Megadrive, though I can't remember that all too well, I do remember Spiderman though.

Gaming become a ritual to me with the acquisition of a PSX for christmas in 1997, with many an afternoon spent playing Siphon Filter, Crash Bandicoot and the Final Fantasy series, among others. Fast forward to 2001 and I discover the wonder that is broadband, and by extension - Online Gaming. I had played through the single player campaigns of Warcraft, AoE and Starcraft back in '99, but I never quite understood the function of that 'TCP/IP' button. Starsiege Tribes however, made the jump for me with a fully functional online lobby system and the many hours of joy which followed.

I dabbled in Warcraft 3 online for about a year running on prepaid 56k, but it was still one of the best things ever, being able to play and chat to other players and explore all the modifications that had been developed (The very first custom game I played was Helms Deep, to this day nothing has thrilled me so much).

To make the connecting bridge to casual exploration of just how fantastic gaming was to competitive gaming and Gamestah, it'd have to be the purchase of Jedi Academy in 2003. Playing on European servers, 400 ping became pretty standard for me, and it wasn't until I discovered JKA servers located in Australia that it became really fun. The discovery of a mod named 'Moviebattles II' enhanced the experience for me even moreso, especially when an Australia orientated server was established. Eventually I joined dV[8] (familiarity starts here) which absolutely dominated the Australian scene. With the release of Team Fortress 2 it was decided that it was the latest and greatest and the clan would start rocking there. I eventually became extremely inactive, and with the move to 'Paradigm Shift', I was left playing TF2 casually. Eventually, Siege referred me to 'Zombie Xodus', and from there I became acquainted with SpearDave and Ej. Prior to this, I had listened in to Gamestah casts occasionally and had loved the twist that it put upon the game. My curiosity got the better of me, and I signed on with Gamestah. I still think it's pretty amazing. When SpearDave went on a holiday for a few weeks, I decided to try my hand at making flyers for casts. That's pretty amazing too.

Aside from TF2 and Gamestah, I still love console gaming and single-player campaigns in just about anything. As it stands now, I am a first year Nursing student, and enjoy long walks on the beach and peach custard.
