When not gaming or casting SpearDave's other hobbies include Scuba Diving and Medieval Combat. Dives are mainly on shipwrecks (actual and scuttled) and often require decompression planning. Use of Nitrox, twin tanks and secondary stage bottles are everyday requirements. As a member of Uppsala Medieval Society he performs combat displays for fairs and carvnivals as well we private functions. SpearDave also enjoys whiskeys, particulary those from Islay, off the coast of Scotland such as Adrbeg, Laphroaig and Caol Ila. These often have a peaty (smokey) oily flavour and are very different from your average malts.

Gaming & Commentary History

Always been a PC Gamer. Not quite as far back as some of the other, but I had hours of fun on 2D platform games, such as Secret Agent and Commander Keen. We had a Calico Vision tho which was awesome, plenty of time played Zaxxon and Donkey Kong. After that I was deprived and the next console was the '64. Conkurs Bad Fur Day and Goldeneye 007 where the games of choice though plenty of mulitplayer parties too. So all my usual NES/SNS fixes had to at mates places. Total lack of  NES Mario really messed me up as a kid. I did have a gameboy, the original large grey ones, and between the Mario Worlds and Tetris my cravings where satisifed.

On the PC front I was deprived there too. No net for most of it, mainly played single player games, OMF2097, Micro Machines, and then Diablo and Diablo 2. In terms of FPS I had really conservative Parents and was not allowed near Wolfensiten 3D, Doom, Quake etc for most of my adolesent years. Played Quake a few times at a LAN cafe (using arrow keys rather then mouse mind you) but it wasnt really until Quake 2 that I started playing FPS. Never did MMOs. Not interested.

I learnt that what really gets me into a game is the atmosphere and the immersion. It started with Half Life, then Deus Ex, and games like FEAR, BioShock and Half Life 2 and many of the HL2 SP Mods.  And Portal. I did I mention how awesome that game is? If you havent played it you are missing out. *Ahem*  Back to it, I dabbled a little in StarCraft and WarCraft 3, though really only on the Single Player Campaigns.

Moving out of home left me poor and with little gaming access.

A few friends got into CS, but for me it never took off. One mate played TFC and for what little exposure I had, I was hooked. So like many people, I drooled over TF2.  My drool was justified. When the game was *finally* released I got it in the beta. The humour, the team work,  the game play.

TF2 is my first serious adventure into online gaming. I started in public servers and looking for a clan. Being new I had no idea of the culture or where to look. I tried to find a way into a few clans but it didnt work. I met a friendly guy with a |-DiC-|  tag, and I laughed. I asked what it stood for and when I was told what it was, I laughed some more. After a few rounds his mate asked if I would like to join.
My time at DIC was short but full of some immense highs. I met some awesome people and we formed a brilliant team. As things go a difference of opinion ment that I wasnt enjoying it anymore. After a long hard thought the decision was made to leave. But I didnt want to leave my mates. Out of this Zombie Xodus was born. Some of the first people I met playing TF2 are in the clan, as well as the first person I met with a |-DiC-|  tag. =zX= are a great bunch of blokes and my online home is there and very happy. If your ever in the neighbourhood feel free to swing by and say hi.

However my venture into casting came when Ej and Flotsky randomly showed up in our sever to cast. A dissapointing loss to G! left me feeling pretty down. However listening to the cast I couldn't help but smile. So then I applied.. and well, now I'm the TF2 Admin.
