Gaming & Commentary History

Gaming has come in various shapes and forms over the years really, starting on Commodore 64’s and Apple IIe’s, right through to Amstrad’s and Amiga’s (OMG I had the 1MB machine!) – I spent time playing anything from Conan the Barbarian through to Gauntlet, and over to Bubble Bobble. Years later and consoles had flooded the market, and the Sega Master System & MegaDrive took over, with Sonic, Alex the Kidd, and the sports genres which took my time up – NHL Ice Hockey, and NFL Football the main culprits as I clocked up many hours on the successful EA games.

It wasn’t until about 1998 that I purchased a new PC, as broadband internet started and the internet became a valid arena for multiplayer gaming, that I rejoined the PC gaming arena. RTS’s were the games of the time for me initially with Starcraft and Warcraft along with Age of Empires being played to all hours of the morning regularly, along with a little bit of Doom, and Quake in various franchise formats.

Then fast forward after a lull (wife, kids etc), my interest in gaming was reignited following the release of Company of Heroes, and soon after that, Battlefield: 2142. It was 2142 that took up hours and hours of game and spare time, and this is where gaming became a bigger influence for me. Soon after that Call of Duty 4 was released, and NZ’s xLAN 2008 was where Momo, Depz & the boys took my imagination with shoutcasting – previously a living room hobby in front of the TV or PC monitor, commentating my game of choice was soon a reality. Setting up my own company to support the New Zealand Gaming Community - GameVault.co.nz - was the catalyst for this, and the rest is good times and great fun with podcasts, tournaments and the likes, as I continue to do my best to build the community for gamers (both competitive and social) here in New Zealand.

From here I have mastered the art of Gamestah CoD, with a number of variations in the game, and of course across multiple tournaments and ladders. Since joining Gamestah, I've expanded to the older school CoD, as well as the new school, and travelled across to Left 4 Dead, CSS, and am always looking for other games to throw my noise to. On top of this, I've also picked up the old console, and XBOX shotucasting is added to my repertoire, where you can not argue with the enthusiasm of that audience - great to cast and great to watch!
