The much anticipated Team Fortress 2 (TF2) the sequel to Team fortress classic (TFC) hit the gaming world recently and has really made an entrance with Australian gamers. First impressions of this game are chaotic and intense. So lets start this review with TF2's brilliant graphics. Although cartoonish the detail of individual classes allows the player to distinguish different classes and teams with ease. The level design is also jammed packed with shinyness thanks to the HL2 engine. A great new additive whilst playing is a death cam, your killer will be zoomed in and freeze framed so you can identify, who, where and how that bastard got you and put him down on your little black list. Which we can expect other FPS shooters to come out with their version of this in the near future. Furthermore each map comes with an instructional video a nice additive for those new to the game. Lets get into the business end, gameplay. As you would expect the sequel is teams based Red vs Blue. Your'e team is made up from 9 characters all with pros and cons and your aim, simple, capture the objective. Each character has the role in your team and are defined by three groups, Offence - Pyro, Scout, Soldier, Defense - Demoman, Soldier, Engineer, and Support - Medic, Spy, Sniper.

Primary -  Flamethrower made for short ranged combat
Secondary - Shotgun for targets at medium distance
Melee - Axe

  • Large damage can be inflicted on groups in close proximity
  • Fire continues to burn if enemy doesn't find health or medic

Disguise kit - no idea what this does :p

  • Sapping enemy buildings take them out for a period of time
  • Back stab, the true OSOK
Cons
  • None really
With TFC the pace was alot faster with all classes having grenades and some sort of status effect weapon, in this version not a chance, why? Simple, the dev team believe this will make the game more newbie friendly, but... we may see them yet, remember this is just a beta. So in short how fun is this game? Pub wise the answer is very fun for the first 10-15 hours, it's fast paced, exciting and alot of laughs. Long term pub you are going to get annoyed with your team as their just not cutting it. Clan play? Well in short yes but  there is a but, class limits, team numbers and map selection will be a huge decision with some trials needing to be done. Overall a good buy and if your a HL2 fan orange box is a purchase with alot of bang for your buck.
