The first week of the GameArena Battlefield 2 10v10 Competition swung in to motion last Sunday night, with bookies all over Australia unable to find a favourite for the competition. Prior to going live with the finals, GameArena ladder managers made last minute adjustments to the BF2 Pro mod, completely disabling the use of artillery, along with some other minor map changes. All teams would need to have this new mod installed, in order to play in the finals. Gamestah Radio swung the studio wagon's engine in to overdrive, in order to bring you all these events, live from each different battle zone. And four awesome battles we did indeed see! Sequential Gaming was first off the bat, coming in to the finals with only 1 loss (to exile5), earlier in the season. SQL put the war paint on their faces and got ready to test out the might of the Australian Field Operatives. AFO have also been doing extremely well this season, coming off 12 straight wins. It was an important round for AFO, as they knew if they could win this match, then they would manage to win a bye from next weeks semi-finals. The action was hard and dirty, and for the first time, Gamestah would bring you all the action from a brand spankin' dirty little map called 'City of the Dead'. Whilst you might not be using your frequent flyer points to travel to this hotspot, SQL showed that it definitely wasn't holiday season for them. SQL managed to cap out AFO in both rounds resulting in a very impressive 277-0 win. SQL's skill and map based knowledge is definitely hard to match. After tapping our communicator badges to Scotty up in the Enterprise, he quickly transported the Gamestah studio paddy-wagon to the other side of the Earth for another match straight after the SQL win. Sharqi Peninsula would be where all the action would take place in this 2nd Finals battle. The Older Gamers|Phoenix knew how important this win would be for them, facing elimination if they were to loose to Exile5. The Toggster's had their guns locked and loaded and managed to display a tremendous amount of courage in the first round. Capping TV Station very early in round 1, and even managing to hold both pieces of armour at one stage. It caught Exile5 off guard, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough. Exile5 continuing to show a very high level of skill and determination the 2nd round, with their attacks as USMC working out brilliantly for them. With some great work being displayed from their tanker, and infantrymen alike, Exile5 took the match out with a win of 195-0. TOG|P would unfortunately, be eliminated. Our Gamestah team then managed to get some sleep in preparation for another massive finals match to be broadcasted Monday night. Having lots of Red Bull on standby, the Gamestah team had Air Force One drop us off at the Zatar wetlands. The team set-up camp, and got ready for what was to be, a very exciting match. The Pudding Assassins parachuted their way down in to the map, setting themselves up for an epic battle against the Army of Reckless Killers. This was an elimination round, both teams wanted this win in order to proceed to the semi-finals next week. The round went live, and as one of our commentators found out, their was no Mi-28 poonage available (a.k.a no chopper since the new mod) so teams had to rely on the assets they had. P.A effectively utilised these assets, and with some awesome work being displayed by their squad leaders, they managed to take the trophy home, from this warzone, with a win of 190-0. ARK would thus be eliminated. The last match of the first round of finals would be broadcasted on Thursday night, so it gave the Gamestah team some time to recuperate from what had already been a massive week of hardcore 'Hugh Heffner 3 girlfriends at once' action. The Gamestah studio parked it's wagon for the night, and took up refuge at the Central point in a lovely shack named "The Wang's Brothel". The postcards we were sending out to our loved ones had the name "Songhua" on it, so that's where the action would be coming from! After some enjoyable night's at our relaxing accommodation, Gamestah shoutcasters got prepared to bring you the last battle of this finals round. The kiwi based clan of M7 would be tackling the might of the Australian based RapidFire team. Both teams were also fighting for the illustrious bye from next weeks semi-finals. The action got fast paced, the commentators got loud, and the tomato sauce got spilt everywhere. rF's rollouts worked out well for them with the team successfully building up some awesome attacks, and managed to hold out against a very worthy and distinguished M7 team. rF celebrated their win of 154-0 by shouting all of the Gamestah team, a round of lap dances back at "The Wang's Brothel". Cheers lads. So, where to next you ask? All our shoutcasters are currently getting some much needed rest in order to bring you the semi-finals, which start Tuesday, the 25th of September at 9.30PM (AEST). The Pudding Assassins will be facing a very angry Australian Field Operatives team on the Gulf of Oman. Whilst M7 are currently preparing to take on the might of exile5, which will occur on Wednesday, the 26th of September at 9.30PM (AEST). The winners from both matches going on to eventually play both Sequential Gaming and RapidFire. Gamestah have you completely covered with this finals series and we look forward to you joining us for these gigantic upcoming matches. johnny_sisko out (GO CATS!) |
