Article by Firest4rter The last day of the World Cyber Games was held on Sunday the 5th of August and it was an action packed day of finals with Gamestah’s EJ, Glimmer, Tobi and Firest4rter on hand to call all the action on the main stage for the thousands of people in attendance. There were 5 gold medals on offer and first up was Age Of Empires 3 with Australia’s ViE_CouVade taking on the #1 player in the World, a full time professional called I.am.Grunt from Korea . CouVade knew he was going to be out classed if the game was drawn out into a long match so he decided to put it all on the line with a nothing to lose aggressive early rush strategy which if successful would give him a chance of fame and fortune. Unfortunately for CouVade and Australia his rush was dealt with a deadly efficiency by Grunt and the game was over in the first 5 minutes with Australia winning its first medal with the silver. The second final was a Warcraft 3 match between the “Giant Killer” from New Zealand Kowi, up against the super star from Korea Soju, with Tobi from Gamestah and Kelvery from Rapture gaming calling all the action . Soju is a professional game player and huge star in Korea, he is treated like a rock star and there were a number of Korean film crews in presence to catch all the action to broadcast back to Korea. Soju had demolished every opponent he faced over the weekend and he again showed in the final why he is head and shoulders the best Warcraft player in the world. Kowi put up a great fight but the match finished with the classy “gaming diva” Soju making it a 2 from 2 for Korea and New Zealand taking home the silver. Next up on the main stage was the excitement machine that is Dead or Alive 4 with EJ and Glimmer full of Red Bull and pumped up to call the action. This was a hugely anticipated match between lovereign from China and Tetra from Singapore as neither player had dropped a single round for the whole tournament. The action from DOA4 is always fast and furious and this final was no exception and as expected it quickly turned into an epic battle with both players exchanging rounds early in the match. The crowd became very vocal in this match and seemed evenly split between the local Singaporean and Chinese player, EJ was in fine form and had the crowd laughing along with comedy gold like “the Chinese player was hammered in that round, he had more hits than the internet”. The match continued to the final round of the game, with the winner take all round and lovereign from China stepped up his game and obliterated his way to the Gold medal, where upon he quickly stood up and let loose with a flurry of fist pumps for the massive number of video cameras and crowd in attendance. Straight after the final of DOA4 the gold medal match of FIFA 2007 was set to go with Glimmer and Firest4rter ready to do their very best Spanish Football Commentators impersonation. The match was a best of 3 games between FGi^bbSeakly from India and STAR.YoRI_MG from China with both competitors winning comprehensively in their semi final matches earlier that day. FGi^bbSeakly had already secured the first medal for India ever at the Asian WCG which is a huge achievement but he was focused and had the skill to take the gold and played like it was his. The first game was a close one with FGi^bbSeakly dominating the mid field battles and STAR.YoRI_MG making the most of his opportunities. At the end of regular time we were all tied at 4-4 and therefore headed into extra time. The Chinese player STAR.YoRI_MG was the first to score in extra time and this was enough for him to secure the first game 5-4. The second game started in much the same way the first game had finished with FGi^bbSeakly still dominating general play and he was the first to score and quickly went up 2-0. STAR.YoRI_MGdid not want to see this gold medal match go into a 3rd and final game therefore stepped up to strike back and with only seconds to go of regular time we were again tied at 5-5. Yuri launched one last attack in the hope of a late goal and managed to score to close out the match and take the second gold of the day for China. The highlight of the match for the commentators was the 2 times they went up as one with a massive “GOOOOOOOOAAALLLL” only to find out the ball had hit the side of the net. The crowed found this particular entertaining and Firest4rter was quick to drag out a few more laughs out with “Don’t worry about us, we just like to yell Goal”. The 5th and final match of the day was the big one, that the majority of the crowd had been waiting for, Defence Of The Ancients and calling the Action was Gamestah’s Tobiwankanobi and Kelvery from Rapture Gaming. This game drew the biggest crowd of the weekend and as it started there was not even any standing room left, with what had to be well over a 1000 people watching. The final was between the two best teams of China and Malaysia with both going through the tournament undefeated. Both teams played a very safe game early with China scoring first blood and taking an early lead. Maylasia was able to fight back with some great ganking, however the longer the game went, the stronger China became as they had the best late game Hero’s. In the end China was able to break through into the Maylaisan base and cause enough damage to ensure it was only a matter of time before they would take the win. Many great team battles were had and the excitement from the commentators had the crowd buzzing. In the end China over powered their opponents securing their 3rd gold medal in a row and ensuring that China were the overall winners of the Asian games finishing on top of the medal tally. ![]() Well done to all those competitors from Australia and New Zealand who did their countries proud providing such a great result. Gamestah was honored to be a part of it all and look forward to calling all the Action from the Australian WCG to be held in Sydney on the Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th of August, and all future WCG events. |
