The hour draws closer to the major announcement by Blizzard today in South Korea. This announcement, as we are told, involves the first mention of a new Blizzard game. Since it was announced that such an announcement would take place the interweb has been full of rumours and hopes of loyal Blizzard gamers, and I'm not talking about those who subscribe to World of Warcraft. I'm talking about the Starcraft fans, the Diablo fans, and too the lesser extent the Warcraft fans... Lets face it, Warcraft fans have plenty to occupy their time with. Now I'm personally hoping for either a Starcraft 2 or a Diablo 3, preferably both, to be announced. We can all see Starcraft needs some more loving . Anyway let us now break down the rumours and see what is and is not plausable.

1. Starcraft 2

A new flashy Starcraft 2 would be highly plausable. Starcraft still, even after nearly a decade, has a massive following. The original is one of those few computer games where one can clearly see a cult following. Even to the point where all gamers know exactly what you mean if you say Zerg rush. Starcraft was and still is one of the greatest RTS's of all time and people are wanting something new to build on it. New units, new races, new graphics, and so forth. Bringing Starcraft into the 21st century is possibly the smartest thing Blizzard could do right now.

2. World of Starcraft

No... just no. Starcraft would not work as an MMO. MMO's are for spells and collecting items and so forth. How do you upgrade your Hydralisk? You can't put new armour on it, its skin is armour. Can't get new weapons for it, they are born with weapons. Even if Starcraft were made into an MMOFPS, we'd then have to contend with lag issues. Starcraft is about fast action, MMO's simply cannot provide that. In any case Blizzard already has an MMO with an enormous player base, I don't see them suddenly trying to split that up any time soon.

3. Starcraft FPS (Not Ghost)

Could work. As I said before, Starcraft is about fast action, and nothing gets faster than a solid FPS.

4. Diablo 3

Again this is another highly plausable rumour. Diablo 2 still has a massive fan and player base and the Diablo universe have proved to be extremely popular. Not entirely sure what more they could do with the Diablo series other than moving it to a first person hack and slash. Either way I have no doubt a new Diablo game would be extremely entertaining.

5. Another WoW expansion

No thank you... WoW just got an expansion. Unlikely they'd be getting another so soon.

6. Starcraft Ghost (re-announcement)

Uncertain of this one. I'm tipping towards unlikely as they are claiming its a new game being announced and Ghost was announced years ago before being ditched... I mean 'delayed'.

Does Diablo 2 really still have a big supporter base? I remember Diablo 1 was pretty huge and was around for ages, but then there wasn't much hype with Diablo 2 and it kind of just slowly dissappeared into the shadows. I haven't heard of anyone playing it in ages
