Hello this Red^ giving you an update on the Australian Day of Defeat 1.3 and Day of Defeat: Source communities and current competitions. Click read more for details.

The current Day of Defeat 1.3 community is still at a stand still with a dissapointing attempt to bring back the game we all love. Currently the competition is based on home and away teams versing the selected map of the week, a.k.a. league play. Late 2005 saw Day of Defeat 1.3 competition suffering but GGF 06 (loosely affiliated more a community organised LAN) and Netstation provided Day of Defeat with a breathe of life later to fall when OGN servers died mid season during the OGN League the main competition at that time, with 3 full divisions. Now the current format and game is ever so familiar yet the will and numbers that Day of Defeat once drew is dwindling, possible due to the ageing clanners and the introduction of Day of Defeat: Source. Although a very grim picture is painted there is still hope for this community, with a decent number of clans still very loyal to the game.

On the other side there is the Day of Defeat: Source community, comprising of some old school and some new comers. Unfortunately this season we have seen a further loss to numbers with as little as 10 clans really showing commitment, there has been many forfeits on the GA ladder and 2 teams dropping out of open OSL division. With the low numbers of teams committed there seems little hope for Day of Defeat: Source. But I believe Day of Defeat source has a chance with a decent number of people playing public servers and the current recruitment drive by some lower ranked clans we may see a more competitive gaming yet.

Why is Day of Defeat/: Source dieing? Simply put Day of Defeat 1.3 was getting old and Day of Defeat: Source was not made for clanning but for the public. At the moment Day of Defeat/: Source is still striving overseas so there is always hope to bring back the game and valve has stated they will update Day of Defeat: Source after TFC2 is finished... In my opinion the game is not only how good it is but how good you make it, and I sincerely hope both communities can get back on their feet for this season and bring back that true meaning of competition. But none the less the teams and players left are the best and some awesome games are going to played out, so look out for some gamestah coverage and if you have either game give it a go and say hello if you see me in the server.
