The Blizzard HGC ANZ Pre-season Qualifiers (PQ) kick off next week on Tuesday, so here’s all the information you need to know about the PQ! Remember, the purpose of the PQ is to identify the five teams that will be joining Nomia, Crimson and Outlaws (formerly NMD) in the HGC ANZ Premier so the structure is designed to give the maximum number of teams the opportunity to compete for a spot.
Registration for the PQ is open until 5pm AEDT on Monday 22 January. After this date, you will not be able to register, so make sure, if you plan on competing, to get your registration in on time. Registration requires you to provide the full team roster, including Battle.net IDs. Once the season starts your team will be roster-locked for the duration of the PQ, and if you make it into Premier, the roster lock will remain in place for the entire Phase.
The Pre-Season Qualifiers will feature 16 rounds of Swiss bracket played over four weeks. Tournament admins will populate the Swiss bracket and set scheduling for the rounds in place after registration has closed. You will know who your first round opponents are by Monday night, but subsequent round match-ups will be determined by the results of matches that have to be played.
Four rounds per match night will be played, with all matches best-of-one (BO1). Maps will be specified for each round, in advance, by the tournament admins. The map pool is the standard HGC map pool, but only four maps will be chosen for each night of play.
Week 1 Maps
The following maps will be played in week 1:
Round 1: Cursed Hollow
Round 2: Dragonshire
Round 3: Tomb of the Spider Queen
Round 4: Braxis Holdout
Teams earn 1 point for each match they win during Swiss bracket play. A loss earns zero points, and byes, if required, will also earn 1 point. At the end of the fourth night, all points will be tallied up and the top 5 teams, by points, will be promoted into the Premier division.
If two teams are tied for a qualifying spot in the Premier division, the only tiebreakers to be used will be the head-to-head results between tied teams. In the event of a tie the team that has won the head-to-head match will advance. If there are no head-to-head results, or if head-to-head results are also a tie, then the teams will play in a tie-breaker match on Thursday 15 February.
The PQ starts on Tuesday, 23 January, and repeats each Tuesday for four weeks, with the final match night (excluding tie-breakers) on Tuesday 13 February. Matches start at 7:30pm AEDT each week.
